When it comes to podcasts about TV shows, the choice is almost limitless, with every major series having countless pods devoted to it – some of which are genuinely excellent.
In this piece, we’ll be talking you through some of the finest podcasts about some of the most popular TV shows in recent television history. Enjoy!
While you’re here, why not also check out our piece about the best paranormal podcasts to freak yourself out to?
1. The Talking Dead
Not to be confused with AMC’s chat show Talking Dead, The Talking Dead is a fan podcast dedicated to the AMC TV show The Walking Dead (and, it should be noted, they had their name before the aforementioned chat show!).
It’s run by a couple of TWD enthusiasts, Chris and Jason, who are totally dedicated to their goal of reviewing every episode of the show. The podcast even airs episodes dedicated to the show’s spin-offs Fear the Walking Dead and TWD: World Beyond. They’ve actually been running since September 2009 – which is before the show itself even started airing!
2. Buffering The Vampire Slayer
Buffering the Vampire Slayer is a bi-weekly podcast hosted by professional musician Jenny Owen Youngs and professional writer Kristin Russo. In each installment, they discuss and review classic supernatural show Buffy the Vampire Slayer one episode at a time – the duo’s enthusiasm for the show is infectious, capable of elevating your own fandom to the next level!
Notably, a podcast devoted to rewatching Buffy’s spin-off show Angel – called Angel On Top – airs in tandem with it. It’s just as good as its parent podcast and offers the same quality episode-by-episode analysis.
3. The Doctor Who Podcast
The Doctor Who Podcast is an ongoing show dedicated to the hugely popular British sci-fi series Doctor Who. Hosted by a crack team of avid Whoniverse fans – including the show’s founder James Rox – there are usually a couple of episodes uploaded every week.
There are episodes dedicated to the current iteration of the show, episodes dedicated to classic incarnations dating back to the 1960s, as well as special episodes from Doctor Who events and some devoted to discussing the latest news in the Doctor Who world. Discussions on the show can sometimes head off on a tangent, but it’s very entertaining nonetheless.
4. Friends With Friends
Friends is arguably the greatest – and undoubtedly the most popular – sitcom of all time. So it should come as no surprise that there’s an abundance of podcasts devoted to it even though it stopped airing in 2004.
Friends With Friends is among the very best of them. Hosted by Friendaholics Pete Alison and Dave Cribb, new episodes of the show are broadcast weekly, taking a retrospective look at individual episodes of Friends – with the occasional special episode devoted to something else related to the show (such as a tribute episode to James Michael Tyler who played Gunther, following his tragic passing). The pod doesn’t have its own website, but you can listen on Apple Podcasts.
5. Talking Sopranos
Hosted by The Sopranos actors Michael Imperioli and Steve Schirripa, Talking Sopranos is the definitive re-watch podcast devoted to one of the greatest TV shows ever made. It’s aired weekly, with episode by episode reviews, and it provides inside info, behind-the-scenes stories and little-known facts that could only come from people with first-hand experience of the show.
Michael and Steve also regularly talk candidly about their friendship and tell other stories from their experiences in the world of entertainment. The podcast also offers interviews with additional cast members, producers, writers, production crew and a plethora of special guests.
6. The Simpsons Show
The Simpsons Show is, as you would expect, a podcast all about the ever-popular animated sitcom The Simpsons. It’s hosted by Matt and Robbie – two self-proclaimed nerds who love The Simpsons and founded the show solely to talk about it in great detail.
New shows are uploaded weekly and discuss The Simpsons on an episode by episode basis, starting with the very first episode of the very first season. They’re nowhere near reaching the episodes that are airing at the time of writing this piece, so the pod should last for years!
7. Interdimensional RSS
Interdimensional RSS is an unofficial podcast devoted to the incredibly successful animated show Rick and Morty. It’s hosted by fans Brandon Cruz and Travis Menard – both of whom are seasoned podcast veterans – and is very good indeed.
The podcast has episodes devoted to individual episodes of the show, entire season recaps, fan theories, and even interviews with key members of the Rick and Morty team, such as executive producer Scott Marder and series composer Ryan Elder. Sometimes, they even discuss additional Rick and Morty media, like the popular comic books.
8. Game Of Owns
Game of Owns is a podcast devoted to the Game of Thrones TV series and the various books in the A Song of Ice and Fire collection. On a more current note, the podcast will also be delving into the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon.
It covers all related media from the franchise, chapter by chapter, season by season, and even has guest appearances by artists, actors, and producers of the series, such as Kristian Nairn who played Hodor and writer and language creator David J. Peterson.
