In Pokémon Unite, there are five different types of Pokémon with different abilities: Attacker, Speedster, All-Rounder, Defender, and Supporter.
When you first start the game, after completing the tutorial, you get to choose among five starter Pokémon: Pikachu, Charizard, Talonflame, Snorlax, or Eldegoss. Of course, you’re not limited to just one Pokémon. As you progress through the game, you get more Pokémon by unlocking levels, participating in Pokémon Unite events, or through in-game mail.
With so many Pokémon available, choosing a playable character can feel intimidating. Here’s a list of the best and strongest Pokémon you can use against your opponents, regardless of your gaming style.
Want to learn more about Pokémon? Here’s how Game Freak can make Pokémon Gen 9 the best yet.
Lucario
Lucario evolves from Riolu and is a Fighting and Steel-type Pokémon. In Pokémon Unite, it has an All-Rounder role with a very well-balanced combination of speed and power. Its best move is Bone Rush. Basically, whereby Lucario throws a large bone at its opponent and stuns them. So the opponent can’t move for a few seconds and you have more opportunities to inflict damage.
During Bone Rush, Lucario can also teleport to the location where the bone was thrown. This is particularly useful when you want to disengage from a battle and prevent damage to your Pokémon. Just throw the bone away, then have Lucario quickly teleport there.
Venusaur
90s kids all remember Venusaur from the olden days of Pokémon Red and Blue, and they’ll be happy to learn that it’s still one of the strongest Pokémon around. In Pokémon Unite, Venusaur is an Attacker Pokémon and its best skill is inflicting damage from afar with the Solar Beam.
You can use Solar Beam for crowd control, but also to get all the wild Pokémon in the attack range. So, your opponents won’t be able to level up by farming wild Pokémon. You’ll get this powerful move as Ivysaur, before evolving into Venusaur when you reach level 7.
Petal Dance is another move you don’t want to miss. It inflicts damage by throwing petals all over the opponent Pokémon and, most importantly, it increases Venusaur’s movement speed, so you can chase enemies more easily.
Sylveon
Sylveon is a very versatile Attacker Pokémon. Thanks to its Fairy Frolic move, it can inflict damage from a distance. This move also heals it for a short time afterwards, with a percentage of the damage turning into HP for Sylveon.
This Psychic-type Pokémon also has passive moves, like Calm Mind, that don’t inflict damage but increase Sylveon’s own Special Attack and Special Defense stats. It can reduce the strength of your opponents in many different ways. For example, the Baby-Doll Eyes move reduces enemy movement speed. You should also try Draining Kiss, which inflicts damage to the opponent while restoring Sylveon’s own HP.
Snorlax
Defender Pokémon like Snorlax are often underrated because they don’t have a lot of offense, but they’re still important because of their ability to protect teammates. Snorlax is particularly good at doing this for a variety of reasons.
First of all, it’s one of the hardest Pokémon to knock out in the game. Despite its innocent appearance, it has an extremely high Endurance level and even the strongest Pokémon have a hard time trying to beat it. When Snorlax has low HP, it can restore its own health with the powerful move Power Nap, which also inflicts damage to the opponents.
Secondly, it has moves that reduce the attacking capability of opponents, leaving room for your teammates to inflict more damage. For example, Yawn puts the opponent to sleep for a short amount of time.
Absol
Absol is one of the strongest Speedster Pokémon since it has both high Mobility and high Offense. Keep in mind that it’s pretty weak in the early stages of the game, before you’ve gained enough EXP to level up and unlock its most powerful moves.
If you have the patience to go through this initial stage, by farming as many wild Pokémon as possible, you’ll be rewarded with the ability to inflict massive amounts of damage. Other than that, Absol’s incredibly high mobility lets you escape quickly from a battle when you have low HP.
Other than the high-damage, low-cooldown Slash and Feint moves, Absol has effective passive moves like Super Luck, which increases the Critical Hit rate.
Hoopa
Hoopa is not the easiest Pokémon to use, but when you’ve figured out how to do it properly, it delivers amazing results. Hoopa uses a ring to create a connection between itself and an ally Pokémon. This way, both Hoopa and the ally are protected for a certain amount of time, as the ring itself acts as a shield. Both Pokémon will also get increased movement speed.
But Hoopa can also inflict a considerable amount of damage. Its most powerful move is Confusion, which uses a telekinetic force to inflict damage and reduce the movement speed of all the opponents in the area of effect.
Now that you know which Pokémon are the best choices in Pokémon Unite and how to make the most out of their moves and abilities, get out there and show the world what you’ve got!
